Travel blogs are a great source of detailed information about travel destinations and can prove to be very useful when planning and executing a trip.

These resources are excellent for a wide range of audiences, including students, nomads, budget backpackers, and travel agencies.

Travel blogs weren’t so popular before. Let’s not be a liar. If a friend told you that they would be starting a blog 5-10 years ago, you wouldn’t have responded with an old groan or an eye roll.

As more people choose to plan their trips rather than hire a travel agent, online resources such as travel blogs have become important parts of the process.

A good travel blog will make you feel as if you are getting advice from an old friend who knows exactly what you enjoy and dislike.

Finding travel blogs that “click” (no pun meant) with you is no longer an option when planning a trip for 2025.

You should spend some time getting to know your favourite bloggers rather than simply “pinning” them.

When you are planning a vacation (or searching for inspiration on a destination), it’s tempting to search Pinterest and accept the first 10 links as gospel.

You wouldn’t really be doing your homework.

Remember how I said that reading a blog about travel should be like receiving advice from a friend? It’s probably best to be more specific. You wouldn’t go to just any to ask for advice or inspiration. Imagine if someone asked for places to eat, places to stay, and things to do in a place you have never been to.

You’d go to a trusted friend who is knowledgeable about the topic and can guide you according to your specific goals and interests.

You should always seek out the advice of experts when you are investing in travel.

Many people on the internet like to share and talk. If you don’t understand what is a blogger and their topic, it is difficult to determine if or when they will be helpful.

How can you tell?

Travel bloggers all have a purpose for starting their blogs. The reasons for starting a blog can vary from a simple way to earn money to fund travels to a creative outlet or a place to share their adventures with friends and family.

They all share one thing:

Travel blogs are created by people who don’t think their stories, advice, or insights (read: content) will be found elsewhere.

It would not be worth my time to write content that you can find elsewhere. Although I know that my unique insights are valuable, I know there are parts of the globe I have not yet visited.

I have searched the entire internet to find the most interesting and unique travel blogs you should follow in 2025.

If I have found the best in the business, I cannot choose solely on gut instinct (though I did use that, too).

What is the proverb about teaching a man you how to fish (finding the best travel blog that suits your needs)? You can have a list of travel blogs and go on your way. What will you gain from this list, other than another bookmark among your 20,000 travel blog links?

You can find travel blogs yourself. While a list of the “best travel blogs in 2025” is useful now, I don’t know if and when this list will become outdated, so I will have to start over.

It’s not necessary to wait for me.

What are the criteria for a travel blog to be considered “best?” What should you look for in a travel blog for yourself or your friends?

1. Popups and minimal ads.

It’s not surprising that clicking on a Pinterest URL can be a nightmare. You click it thinking you’re going to find exactly what you need, but then you are bombarded with ads and popups, making it impossible even to locate the information you want.

This is not just a bad user experience; it’s also damn near impossible to wade your way through all the clutter to find what you want, especially on a mobile device.

If you see more than one popup within the first 10 seconds, it’s time to say goodbye to that bad blog.

2. Experience the real thing

Everyone must live somewhere. (Unless you are a nomad. But stay with me a moment). You know where you like to go to eat, drink and stay. And what fun things to do between. A travel blogger must be at least an expert in their city. This is the first step, and it’s usually easy to determine.

When they travel, things get tricky. What advice do they give about travelling? What kind of advice are they offering about travel itself?

If you’re familiar with internet trends and key phrases, it is surprisingly simple to “fake”. You’ll need to make sure the bloggers you follow are actually familiar with the places they write about. You should also include photos and personal stories.

You will get to know the person better and see if you have similar personalities. It will also help you to verify that any advice you receive is genuine.

3. A clear voice & niche.

Each travel blogger must have a strong sense of their own identity. Knowing where to improve their travel blogging abilities will help them create great blog content, but it will also benefit you as a reader.

If you know what they’re going to say, then it will be easier for you to trust them with their expertise.

Finding your favourite travel blogs is easy once you realize there are many types and that you can curate your feeds according to your goals.

Let me give you an illustration. Imagine that you want to visit all the baseball stadiums in America. Where do you begin?

1. A) Find a blog about visiting every [insert location here] in your country.

Answer: All three. You can combine all three of these (hypothetical travel blogs) to make the most of your trip if you follow them.

4. Routine updates & maintenance.

You should expect to find a timeline of new posts on a travel blog. It’s not that there’s no good information on a blog, but if you go to a travel site in 2022 and their last post was from 2019 or earlier, it’s hard to believe that they’re a regular contributor.

How many travel blogs are abandoned by travellers who can’t keep pace with them? It’s thousands.

If they do not post at least once a week, then there should be an explanation. Is their platform being redesigned? Are they going on a six-month silent retreat? It is not reasonable to expect the reader to spend time seeking out advice from a travel blog that isn’t active.

Travel Blog Maintenance

As a web designer, I am well aware of how easily a website can be broken. A single plugin, when implemented incorrectly, can bring down the entire blog infrastructure!

If someone is serious about their blog, they will know that it’s not worth neglecting. The website should not contain any lines of code, scrolling and reading should be simple, and popups should be kept to a minimum.

If a blog does not look good on mobile devices, it will likely not be of much use to you over time.

1. Sign up for email updates & frequent visits to the website.

Travel bloggers often make money by combining ad revenues with their ability to use their “influence” in order to obtain services at a discounted or free price. You can encourage your favourite travel bloggers to keep doing what they love by visiting their sites often.

2. Ask questions and reach out to people personally.

I love it when strangers reach out to me, especially those who found my blog by accident. It’s not just that I enjoy helping people. It also lets me know I am doing a great job publishing content and providing travel resources to the community (and aspiring travellers) when people see me as an expert. It’s more than just a boost to my ego; it also gives me the opportunity to provide you with personalized advice, suggestions, and ideas for your particular situation, dreams, or budget.

3. Save their Pinterest links.

Remember when I told you that travel bloggers could make money from site visits? Pinterest will be a major part of the way travel blogs generate new users in 2025. One of the best things you can do to support your favourite blogs is to save their articles on Pinterest. This is especially true for those you want to bookmark later.

4. Share their links and follow them on their social media accounts.

Pinterest is the king of content when it comes to travel blogs. But that doesn’t make other social media less important! Social media is where most travel blogs share reminders and new information that they don’t post on their websites or newsletters. The best travel bloggers will diversify their content to be available on multiple platforms. This allows you to enjoy different types of content. You can also easily engage with them by sharing and commenting on their content.

5. Take their advice, then follow up.

When I first began travelling, I relied heavily on travel bloggers’ advice to get me going. Without my favourite travel bloggers, I would not be the travel writer I am today. When someone offers you advice about where to go, how to spend your time, what food to eat, or even how to quit work and move abroad, trust them. What’s the best part of all? After you’ve taken their advice, tell them what you did and where you ate. Let them know what you did. You’ll be delighted to hear their feedback. If they haven’t visited a certain destination in a while, you might even be able to provide them with updated information that they can share with their audience.
